When someone near and dear to you has a family emergency that will take them far from home by plane or who is facing long hours in the hospital just waiting around for news it can be hard to know how to help. One of our best friends is facing that today. She’s heading to the other side of the country to be with her Dad. Her amazing church family and support system is making sure her kids and husband are taken care of in her absence but we wanted to make sure SHE was/felt taken care of, too. We assembled some simple things for the plane ride and inevitable waiting around in a cute but substantial canvas tote.
We included: Things to keep her occupied while waiting- Magazines, nail polish and a nail file, and an iTunes gift card to load up her phone with a movie, music or a book. Things for her to snack on: There aren’t a lot of food options at most hospitals so we included trail mix, peanut m&m’s, lollipops for a little sugar lift and gum. We also added some travel sized lotion and chapstick because its easy to dry out while traveling long hours on a plane.
Then we dropped it off to her house. With a heartfelt hug and a card full of loving support.
We tried to include some useful things as well as some treats – mostly we just want her to know that even though we can’t fix it or be there with her, we’re ARE with her, and thinking about her, and praying for her. This would be an excellent smile maker gift for anyone facing unexpected travel or hospital stays.
She is lucky to have such thoughtful friends!
This is so sweet. Everyone always turns to casseroles and things for home, but its nice to have immediate comfort in the hospital or on the plane trip to get to the crisis. You are a great friend!
