It seems like every summer we hear our mom-friends talk about the same challenges: how to battle excessive screen time, what to do to keep the kids busy, and the summer reading list. Since we can’t solve all the summer problems (my brain is still fried from the pink vs purple swimsuit meltdown we had yesterday afternoon !), we thought we’d try to tackle the Summer reading list in the most fun way … A printable!
We designed a printable paper chain reading log. Print it as you need it and keep the extras in a jar or basket.
As your kids complete a book (independently or with help), just fill out a link and add it to the chain with a stapler, glue stick or even washi tape.
Decide on a reward (like an ice-cream party or day at the zoo) for a specific amount of books, length of chain (like floor to ceiling, or across the kitchen) or just watch it grow and grow!
This is a great project the family can work on together. Younger kids get a link for reading with mom or dad, little kids can read small books, and older kids could do a link for each chapter of a long or challenging book. It doesn’t have to be kids only. How great would it be for kids to see their parents filling out links for the books they’re reading?
