Moving is such a mixed bag, isn’t it? It can be thrilling, devastating, adventurous and fantastic all in one. Regardless of why or where you have to move – across town or across country – isn’t it nice to be welcomed into your new neighborhood with open arms? Let’s spread the welcome warmth with this simple and easy new neighbor gift basket.
We tried to think of what we might like to have on hand when moving into a new home – so in this basket is a bottle of homemade cleaner (you could easily replace it with your favorite store bought brand), a hand stamped flour sack towel (get the tutorial at Design Improvised), a yummy candle, a little treat from our favorite neighborhood candy store, and a small gift card to a neighborhood ice cream shop.
Also tucked into the basket is what we ALL wish new houses came with – the lived in favorites in the new area. It would be so nice to have all this at hand until you can figure out your own family’s favorites… but I wish someone had told me how good the hole-in-the-wall restaurant across the street really was, or a trustworthy place to go for an oil change. We’ve also included an info card for your family info… or just use it for cell phone numbers or email addresses. The printable is at the end of this post.
All of these goodies are tucked in a traditional basket filled with vanilla shred and tied off with baker’s twine and a “welcome” tag.
A basket like this would surely make any new neighbor – young or old, family or single – feel welcomed. What would you have loved to receive as a new neighbor gift?

Paper Mart generously provided some of the packaging materials for this series. We love Paper Mart and their high quality products and would have used them anyways! No other compensation was received for using their products.
Whoever brings this gets neighbor of the year. So thoughtful and helpful! Local favorites on a card is a great idea! I bring over home-baked goods like a meal or some yummy “power” muffins because when we move, cooking is the last thing I want to do.
You guys – I am LOVING all your basket ideas. All so clever, and so helpful! I’m telling you, I think your printables are such a cool part of your blog too. I love them all! I wish I had an inkling of graphic design talent so I could do printables. Also, a big thanks for the tea towel cameo and shout out. ;)
I love the printable with the neighborhood favorites. do you have any suggestions for an neighbor introduction gift? my husband and I are moving and I’m stumped for ways to introduce ourselves.
Thanks so much Kristyn. Do you follow House of Smiths? She did a great party the other night. Here is a link to the invite: http://instagram.com/p/ruMGdMy2fl/?modal=true. If you want to see pics from the party, go to http://www.thehouseofsmiths.com. It kind of makes me want to move just to throw the party!!
