I adore my husband and daughter, I really do, and they do a great job of making me feel like an awesome mom year-round. But you know who celebrates motherhood the BEST? My mom friends. So this year for Mother’s Day, I’m inviting a few over after school drop off for a casual and low-key morning of our favorite brunch foods, fellowship, and a little bubbly – because they’re special and I want to celebrate them.
I’m always amazed at how a table can be transformed with florals. I love having fresh, bright flowers in my house and as the centerpiece of a table, they just make it feel like a party! Same as the flowers, isn’t it amazing how a fun place mat and a cloth napkin instantly dress up an event? All of the rest of the “stuff” is also from my every day stash – I think it the combination of the flowers with the set table that really makes it feel like an occasion.
HEB always has pretty blooms to choose from but if I’m looking for something specific, I don’t mind calling a few stores to find them. Other times, I like to choose from what is available and just be surprised. I think we’re pretty lucky to have a grocery store floral department with such variety.
For breakfast-y brunch, I’m serving: Mini Dutch Babies with Strawberry Lavender Freezer Jam, cut up fruit (and I’m totally cheating and using the pre-cut fruit from HEB, because #weekday), and bacon. We’ll have coffee and tea, and juice with a splash of prosecco. And because every good party has a fun take-away, each friend will head home with a little something to remind her that we love her, she has a village and she’s a great mom. HEB carries the cutest Kitchen Aid kitchen tools – tongs, to spatulas, and whisks to nesting bowls – in a beautiful aqua color.
I couldn’t resist the aqua measuring cups (I can’t be the only one who feels like the one measurement I need is the one that is missing!) and a punny tag to go along. I popped on to Canva and used one of their free designs to make a “NO ONE WILL EVER MEASURE UP TO YOU” gift tag. A little note from me on the back, a pieces of ribbon, and voila!
I appreciate things that make my life better – good friends and good food on the top of that list and not too far down beautiful flowers and the convenience of one-stop-shopping at my favorite grocery store! Take a morning to celebrate your mom-tribe friends this year – because as amazing as our partners and kids are, no one celebrates a mama like another mama!
