This is a story about a little bit of luxury. It’s a story about a tiny bit of decadence. It is a story about transformation and renewal.
It is a story about lavender simple syrup – simple sugar and water steeped with luxurious lavender.
Lavender simple syrup that gets transformed into sparkling lavender lemonade.
Sparkling lavender lemonade, embellished with a splash of cold vodka, for a seriously decadent cocktail – if you’re the cocktail-ing kind.
Also, lavender simple syrup makes a fantastic cream soda. Just sayin’.
Simple syrup is terribly easy to make and fantastic to have around – it’s a 1:1 ratio of sugar and water. Bring the water to a boil, add the sugar, turn off the heat and stir until the sugar is dissolved and let cool. It can be infused with any number of flavors. For lavender simple syrup, simply steep culinary lavender buds in the warm syrup. The more you use and longer it steeps the stronger the flavor. Strain out the flowers and store in the fridge. Alternatively, use a drop or two (or three) of lavender essential oil in place of the dried lavender buds. This way, you’re not committed to a batch of lavender simple syrup.
My favorite combination to make lemonade is to combine 1 part lemon juice to one part simple syrup and 3 parts water. You can adjust it to fit you’re taste buds. If you’re making sparking lemonade by the glass, a good rule of thumb is one tablespoon each of lemon juice and simple syrup, stir to combine, top with sparkling water and a few pieces of ice.
To enjoy as a cocktail, combine one part each of lemon juice and simple syrup, add a splash of vodka (a literal OR liberal splash, depending…) and top with sparkling water and ice.
Then sit back and enjoy one of my favorite summer simple pleasures.
(I think I broke a record for the use of ‘simple’ in this post.)
I’m pinning this to makes later. Looks and sounds delish`
