We’re so excited to be participating in HEB’s Virtual Holiday Progressive Dinner. Every day this week a Texas blogger will be showcasing a different element to this dinner party – and we’re glad you are here with us to start today!
We were invited to create the tabletop design. We’re setting the mood for the rest of the week of fabulous recipes. HEB sent us some inspiration pieces and then we used things that we already owned – we think it’s important to remember you don’t need a new set of china just because you’re having company for dinner (unless you really want new china!).
Our starting point for this table was the HEB flower arrangement. The red roses and white lilies are a classic holiday combination and inspired a classic red and white color palette for the table.
One of the things to keep in mind when you’re ordering flowers is to make sure they’re a height that allows for conversation across the table.
With our color theme decided it made choosing the dishes pretty easy. Red plates and white bowls are understated and classic. To continue the color theme we used letter press gift tags as place cards. Running up the center of the table are pine tree clippings and miniature houses to create a wintery scene. Red ornaments scattered among the pine boughs adds festive color. By keeping the serving pieces white, we kept the look cohesive. Even if the conversation is lacking at your dinner party, you won’t be bored with all the things to look at!
To round out the tablescape we want you to look up. The tabletop décor doesn’t stop with the table! We hung a garland of silver paper stars that were sewn together and hung a few larger snowflake ornaments that hold a tea light.
You can just imagine the sparkle if you’re dining by candlelight.
None of these ideas are difficult to execute: Start with a color, and then move on to place settings. Fill in the blanks with Christmas décor you have. If you decide to go with a nature theme, go outside and collect some greenery to fill in the empty spots on the table. If you want to go with golden high glamor, wrap little boxes in gold wrapping paper for a place card (a candy bar works perfectly for this).
We hoped you enjoyed our tabletop start to HEB’s Virtual Progressive Dinner. Make sure you visit the other blogs every day this week to see all the amazing things they have in store.
If you want to join in this dinner party you’re in luck, starting today through December 12, you can share an image of your favorite holiday dish/drink/décor on Instagram using the hashtag #HEBJoyvilleSweeps and tagging @HEB. Each day you just need to post your take on the day’s theme. That means that today you should post a picture of holiday table décor. You can enter every day!
