A Lovely Pink Mantel

mantelfullvalentines As a hopeless romantic Valentines Day  is one of my favorite holidays. Love quotes, hearts, Valentine cards, and candy are all fantastic but really, as a Mom in a house full of boys it’s the only time of year I can fill the house with pink and I’ll take any excuse to add a little girliness to my decorating.

I like to change it up each year and this year I had a box full of My Minds Eye party supplies that were just calling my name!

I started by creating the garland with my Mom when she was visiting at Christmas. We love coming up with projects and crafting together. Originally we started by making the little circles you see above out to tissue paper and crepe paper. All you need to do is cut a length of each and then  hand stitch up and down through one side of the crepe gather and tie when it forms a circle.

Next I cut flags for the base out of a paper from My Minds Eye On Trend line. It may be hard to see here but the dots are gold foiled. The sheets are 12×12 so I cut them in half so they were 6 inches wide and 8 inches tall. Then I cut a notch in the bottom to create the flag shape.

I placed the pink and white circles on top and then added the glitter love letters I cut with my trusty Silhouette.

Next I added birds to each end of the garland with hearts hanging from their beaks. You can see it all laid out below before I strung it on some fluffy yarn.

And here it is again on the mantel.

To add a little more love to the mantel I made a large heart by tracing a heart pattern on some styrofoam and fringing the same tissue paper on the garland. Then I added a layer of gold foiled polka dot paper, a partyfan, and a heart to top it all off.

To the mantle itself I added more party fans, a stack of books, the number 14 on a pink cake plate and some pink netting and gold beads for extra texture. And there you have it! A pink mantel any romantic would love!

I Love your Valentines Day mantel! I’ve made several of the small fans for cards and scrapbooking pages, but can you give me a bit of information on how to make these huge ones you’ve made? They are stunningly beautiful. If you can’t, no worries, thanks and take care.
