When we started brainstorming Vivi’s 2nd birthday party I knew I wanted it to be small, simply crafted and relaxed. Vivi loves to be outside, so a garden party seemed like a perfect fit – and all the elements put together were feminine, a touch vintage, and 100% amazing. It helps to have incredibly talented and artistic friends who share their talents! Huge thanks to Maria, for the incredible flowers, and Stephanie, for creating Vivi’s birthday cake and cookie favors. Sarah and Candice went above and beyond to help me with food and crafting the moss V and packing up half their houses so we could style everything just right.
The cake was buttermilk vanilla bean with homemade lemon curd and Bonne Maman’s raspberry preserves iced with vanilla Swiss meringue butter cream. It was exactly as good as it sounds. Or possibly even better.
This beautiful and huge frame usually sits in Candice’s front room but we made it a focal piece of the party that showcased pictures of Vivi from the past year, hung from twine with gold glittered pins. The crepe paper flowers and gold birds nest added a touch of “garden” to the display.
An evening of movie watching and sewing yielded the sweet and fluttery doily bunting that was draped across the ceiling of the covered porch.
Vivi’s “pet name” is Lapin – and Candice created these adorable bunnies for our birthday garden. The glittered Elizabethan collars and party hats were completely handmade.
We kept the food simple with a light “tea time” selection of fruit, cheese crackers, chicken salad tea sandwiches, lavender lemon bars cake and lemonade. The moss V was crafted by Candice to hang from a branch as the centerpiece of the food table.
Stephanie hand painted each flower on the favor cookies – and Vivi’s name was perfectly pretty in gold luster dust.
Although it’s hard to see, Vivi was mesmerized by the sparkler 2 candle atop her cake.
Happy birthday, my sweet petite lapin!
