I have to be honest – green smoothies scare me. I don’t know what the mental block was or why I had one — I like plenty of green foods and, c’mon, if my 4 year old can down a fruit/veggie pouch that has greens in it, why couldn’t I? I just… can’t. Or couldn’t.
Then I got tired of my tropical fruit smoothies.
With only a few minutes to spare this morning, and nothing in my stomach, I dug through the fridge and freezer to find something to eat. Here’s what I came up with:
1/4 of a banana
1/2 of a pear
a handful of frozen pineapple
a handful of spinach leaves
a half eaten vanilla yogurt
Anyone else have an abundance of half eaten toddler/kid food in their fridge or freezer?
So into the blender they went with some ice and a little water.
I have no idea what possessed me to throw in the spinach. Maybe I’ve turned a new leaf? (har har…)
When it was almost finished blending, I added several drops of lemon and mint essential oils. I think that some fresh mint and lemon would have been awesome, too. (Please be sure that any essential oils you use are appropriate for consumption! I prefer Young Living and get them here.)
Hello, green smoothie. You aren’t so scary after all… in fact, I think I might like to try you out again. (Who is this wild woman!?) What are your favorite smoothie recipes? Green or otherwise?
