For our final day of gift guides this week, we’re first focusing on the men. I’m not going to lie, I love buying for my sisters and my girlfriends, because I know how much they appreciate receiving beautiful things. I’m not saying that men don’t appreciate beautiful things, but it’s a little more difficult to get a great reaction from a man! Buying for my boys is still pretty easy, because they’re still young. I think the difficulties begin when they’re teenagers!
I have dads, brothers, and coaches to buy for, plus my husband. I kind of messed up Father’s Day this year (apparently gourmet jerky is not as great as I thought!), so I needed a little help getting started. When we create gift guides, we spend a lot of time going through magazines, the internet, talking to friends, etc… but for the men’s guide we turned to Yahoo Style.
Yahoo Style is full of helpful hints for those who may be a little idea challenged! Their gift guides are a great starting point. One of my favorite guides is the Men’s Tech Guide. There’s nothing here that’s really for men only, but if the man you’re buying for is the kind of guy who loves the latest thing, this is the guide for you (or him!!). There are some pretty pricey options, but there are also some very reasonable gifts. One of the best things about curated guides is that you’ll usually find at least a couple of things that you’ve never heard of before.
Going through a guide can be kind of overwhelming. When you’re presented with a large number of amazing things, you’re tempted to buy way more than you need. I use the same rule of thumb for my husband that I use for my kids:
- Something to read: My husband loves to read, and the only trouble I have finding a book is limiting myself to just 1 or 2!
- Something to wear: Clothing isn’t as easy for me because I buy things that I think look stylish and hip, but I have to remember that my husband isn’t interested in hip at all!
- Something to play with: Boys and their toys is no joke! Toys can be something huge like an arcade machine, or they could be something small like a new pair of earphones. Obviously a 3D printer would be amazing, but I might wait for that until they are a little easier to find!
Yahoo Style also has a “Manscaping” Guide. I’m not going to lie to you, manscaping isn’t my favorite term, but if you’re looking to make your man a little more George Clooney and a little less Duck Dynasty, this might be your guide! A little word of warning, if the recipient is particular about cologne or shaving you might not want to mess with his routine! Start small with one hair product or scented shower gel instead of a full bottle of cologne!
There’s still plenty of time left to get gifts in time for Christmas. What are you buying the men in your life this year?
