When our friend Tori of the sTORIbook and Tori Johnson PR found out she was expecting her second baby boy we were elated for her! Tori had a really rough start to her pregnancy, suffering from severe HG. When she reached out to see if we’d help design a nursery, source things that could be ordered online and then help install it, we were more than thrilled to lend a hand (or 6!).
What started as a simple collection of ideas from some of our favorite sources, turned into a modern baby boy’s nursery that will continue to grow with him through toddler and childhood years. (Sources at the end of the post.)
Since Tori had most of the furniture pieces, it was all about adding in high impact elements to make it feel fresh and new. The walls in the nursery got a fresh coat of white paint and the accent wall a deep shade of perfect navy blue. The gold triangles are custom cut vinyl decals.
This sweet rocker has been in Tori’s family for years – all it needed was a few yards of fabric for a totally transformed look!
I love a good text-art project but didn’t want to limit the words to something traditionally “kid” – so I pulled a few lyrics from Ray LaMontagne’s “You Are The Best Thing“, (“You are the best thing, baby, that’s ever happened to me.”) cut them out of wood veneer “paper” and mounted them on mat board in a robin’s egg blue shade.
The dresser was in great condition and provided much needed storage and a perfect spot for a changing table. We gave the knobs an update with gold “Rub and Buff” and the changing pad a cushy striped cover. Since Foster was born into a (stylish) hunting family, we incorporated some elements in his room that connect that part of his heritage. The beautiful deer print arrived framed and ties into the subtle nod of a hunting heritage.
One of my favorite ways to add storage is to hang rigid baskets on the wall sideways – it’s great for quick things that need to be at hand, or in this case some diaper changing entertainment for later on.
We’re so happy that Foster made a happy and healthy entrance into the world and were so glad to collaborate with Tori on her son’s fabulous nursery.
