In many of my mom groups and photographer groups we frequently lament how few times we’re in our family’s pictures and how we should be better about that.
I know I have exponentially more images of my husband in fun pictures with Vivi but it’s still surprising how few there are. Here are 5 ideas for capturing Dad with the kids – on Father’s Day or any day! (And to prove it can be at any time, with any camera, I’ve only used iPhone pictures here!)
In A Place They Love
Document a place they both love to go. Although Vivi has only been to Gibson’s a handful of times, she remembers it as a place they both love.
2. Totally “In the Moment”
Just being goofy, serious, or whatever — not posed (other than when it’s totally posed because your 3 year old looks like a 13 year old with her steamed milk…), just THEM.
3. A Size Comparison
It’s incredible to me that just yesterday Vivi fit from FMG’s elbow to wrist. Sometimes she seems so big – and then I see her next to his 6’4” frame, and she’s back to that tiny babe.
4. Completely Unaware of You
It goes without saying that there are some sweet moments that happen when mom isn’t paying attention. I adore their bed time routine – and she’s always gone down easier for him – so pausing to capture this moment felt like a tiny piece of time I’d want to hold on to.
5. Doing Something Mundane/ A Day to Day Shot
I guess this could also be “teaching something” – but I just loved that she was fascinated by the “big saw” and FMG explained over and over again what it was doing and how it worked. It took a completely mundane Saturday errand and made it a memory.
What would you add to the list? What is *your* favorite picture you have with your dad?
